Organizational Profile

An overview of PAPRI — who we are, what we do, and the people we work with.

PAPRI (Poverty Alleviation through Participatory Rural Initiatives) is a non-government voluntary development organization established in July 1999. A group of NGO and social activists founded the organization with full cooperation and assistance from SHAPLA NEER — Citizens' Committee in Japan for Overseas Support. Initially, it was a development endeavor of SHAPLA NEER that was performing its development works in Bangladesh since 1987. PAPRI commenced its activities through carrying over some program activities of SHAPLA NEER. Over a period, PAPRI extended development works in the whole Narsingdi district and a portion of Mymensingh district.

PAPRI works more closely with the poor and disadvantaged people in the rural areas, where there is a dire paucity of initiatives by development organizations. PAPRI is also covering a part of urban and remote char areas for an improved life through identifying needs and creating an environment to analyze the potentials, strengths and weaknesses so as to ensure proper services with easy access to available services and streamlining of self-reliance. Moreover, PAPRI is committed to carry out activities for sustainable and qualitative improvement of the overall living conditions of its target people through partnership with Development Partners, NGOs and networks who have similar vision.
